Obviously I am about 18 months late getting this up, but wanted to get Pete's life documented a bit before baby #2 arrives!!
Peter John Bertels was born at home at 8:09 a.m. on Friday, March 12th. He weighed 7 lbs and was a very happy, healthy baby boy. He was breastfeeding easily within minutes, thanks to help from our midwife, Teresa. Peter came VERY quickly and we were beginning to think Paul and my mom would be delivering the baby but Teresa made it with seconds to spare!!
Not sure how Pete felt about all the cameras in his face a minute or two after his birth!!
He sure was a little cutie that day - hard to believe he was so tiny!
The first picture of the new family - mom, dad and baby Peter!!
Here's the whole gang - both grandmothers!!
Proud mom, although not exactly sure what to do with this new little bundle!!
Teresa helps out with breastfeeding baby Peter - yum yum!!
Peter getting some sleep - not usually at night in the early days after his birth though!!
Tired dad and Pete catch a few ZZZZZZZZs . . .
Here is Peter a couple days after he was born!!

This is a tale of a crafty mom.
She is mother to three Things, ages 5, 3, and 1. She has two other Things, one to whom she is married and one who has four legs, barks, and responds to the name "Rudy". (OK, they both bark.)
She has a passion and a gift for telling stories. This blog is the story of big things, little things, and in between things that happen in her life. In the bigger story - the story of it all - a young girl left her home in Atlantic Canada to move to the nation's capital to study journalism. She traded the ocean, seafood, and the smell of salt water in her hair for the world's longest ice skating rink, Beavertails, and the Parliament buildings.
She met a half-Irish boy at an Irish pub, on Saint Patrick's day, many years ago. They married by the beach in Nova Scotia, although they continued to live in one of the coldest cities known to man.
At the start of the new millennium, the girl decided to leave her career in marketing/public relations/writing to go back to school to study education and become a teacher. She only taught for several years before she got "knocked up".
She gave birth to Thing 1 in 2004, in the master bedroom of the house she had just bought with her half-Irish, half-Dutch husband. While she considered a hospital birth, her son made a speedy appearance and obviously had other plans. She soon decided to expand her little pack and had Thing 2 (a boy) in 2005 and Thing 3 (a girl) in 2008.
She is currently still on leave and is busy raising her three Things, trying to stay sane, and taking one day at a time. She is an environmentally conscious mom (yet hates the trendy term "green mom") who uses cloth diapers, enjoys composting, and tries to raise her Things to appreciate the natural world around them and to treat it with respect.
A Crafty Mom thoroughly enjoys crafts and has managed to keep herself ridiculously busy while at home with her Things making and sometimes selling her wares. She is an avid stamper and papercrafter, loves scrapbooking, dabbles in beading, and is a mediocre knitter. She and her family of Things are very active, love sports and all activities associated with the outdoors, and have even managed to become average at several of them. Lastly, having three children has led a Crafty Mom to her kitchen, where she unveiled a recent love for cooking and creating wholesome and delicious meals for her Things. You can read more about this here.
In the meantime, welcome to this tale. A tale of a Crafty Mom, her three Things, and everything from the completely mundane to the absolutely spectacular.
