Well, we've survived a long Easter weekend inside. That tricky little Easter bunny stopped by our house and dropped off a case of the stomach flu - yeee-uck! So we've been quarantined here on our own for almost four days - Pete and I had it the worst and will hopefully be feeling better in another day or two. Much is not getting done around this house (read: cleaning, general tidying, cooking, etc!!!) while we all rest and hang out in our PJs. Oh well, maybe we all needed a little break???
So I canceled our Easter dinner and we didn't make it to church, but I did manage to stuff Leah into her Easter dress and take one picture before I took it off. Yes, "stuff" her into I did b/c it's a size 0-3 months and completely does not fit her generous little body. You can see her sausage-like arms busting out of the bottom of the blouse . . . but what you cannot see is that the buttons in the back aren't even done up ;-)
Here is Miss Smiley in a more comfortable outfit!!!
I took this at a bad angle so you can't see her laughing hysterically at Thing 1 and Thing 2. Laughing is one of her new favourite pastimes!
Hamming it up for the camera in her bunny shirt!
And just chillin' in the papasan swing of course . . .
Thing 1 and 2 have taken to fighting Darth Vader on a regular basis now, and since Pete received two lightsabers for his birthday, well, each boy has his own. Paul set them up in the bathroom to take pictures with the lights off - so that the sabers were *glowing*. Not as cool a technique with the flash on your camera hubby, darling!!!
p.s. See that look of sheer adoration in David's eyes??? Yup, Thing 1 has really got him hooked!

Pete turns FOUR!!!
Who knew this little 7 lb bundle would become a big, blond four year old with the most vivid imagination we have ever seen???? Yes, little Pete turned four this week and we had a Transformers (his current favourite thing!) birthday party for him. Nice and small and very manageable - just the way I like it! Here are Pete and David on the big birthday party day, sporting their new Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts from Auntie Lauren :-) Ca-ute!

David dipping into the chip bowl - loving his fly-away hair these days!
Here's the whole gang . . .
Dad and his soon-to-be-kindergardner . . .
Opening his gifts . . .
The almighty Optimus Prime birthday cake - you can imagine how much we had leftover considering there were only six kids in total and they barely had any of it!!!
Pete blows out the candle - and tells everyone at the table what his wish is (no, not world peace, just making his desire to receive ALL of the Transformer autobots known to us).
Yummy!!!!
David - not looking happy, but truly enjoying his piece of cake.

New pictures of "da chunk"
Things have been extremely busy this past week, but not *too* busy to add some new pictures of our chubby girl!!!!
Posing for mommy . . .
Giving a little cheer for her hockey team - GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!!! (For those not in the loop, Leah was conceived as the Senators entered the Stanley Cup Finals last spring!! She will be a hockey lover for life!).
Starting her daily cooing . . .
I have officially never had a baby grow quite like Leah. She is HUGE. My breastmilk must be filled with some fattening stuff this time around, seems like all I do is fold up and put away clothes that DON'T fit her anymore!!! Thankfully we received a nice big box of cool clothes from our awesome and trendy cousin Reese. Leah models her new jeans . . . roomy enough for her chunky thighs.
Awwwwwwwwwwww, more cute pink outfits!!! And no, she doesn't sleep all the time but is a better model while sleeping b/c she is quite the squirmy worm when she is awake :-)
Paul bonds and spends some quality time with his new little girl . . .

I have a big baby!!!
Leah had her last check up with our midwife today. From here on she will see our family doctor. It was a bit sad, I have spent a *lot* of time at my midwife's office in the past five years :-) I hope to NOT be back there again . . . ever!!!!
*Little* Leah is 12 lbs on the nose and turns 7 weeks tomorrow!! What a big girl she is becoming! I love the chubby cheeks :-) She's also 56 cms long, so quite tall too. It is lovely to not worry about her weight, since the boys were both quite light weights.
***NOTE*** 56 cms is also how much snow we received this weekend :-)

Don't get lost in the snow!
If you live in Canada, you probably already know that Ottawa got hit with a major winter blizzard this past weekend. We received 56 cms of snow in 48 hours. We have had 144 cms fall so far this season. We are 33 cms away from breaking the all time record for largest snowfall ever in Ottawa. I guess in the spirit of record-breaking I should be hoping for more snow????
To give you a better idea of what 144 cms of snow looks like . . .
I should mention . . . THIS photo was taken BEFORE the snow even started!! Here are the boys playing on the front lawn ;-)
Paul captured a shot of me in my pjs Sunday morning trying to pry out a little circle for Rudy to get out back and go to the bathroom.
Here is the little circle I was able to chisel away for him - the poor dog is learning to live with less and less space each storm!!!
Here is Paul's car - the view as we came out of our garage Sunday morning . . .
Our front walkway . . .
The view out our back door - there's the TOP of the kid's slide!!!
Another view out front . . .
The poor, buried tree in our front yard.
And ironically, they are calling for *more* snow tomorrow :-)

Had a great TIME this weekend :-)
We had a nice weekend here in our cold, winter city. We got outside a couple times with the kids, despite them being sick. I was pleasantly surprised to get up on Saturday morning and have delicious coffee made for me on my birthday!! (It's usually my job, so it was a big treat to have someone else make it). Then Paul surprised (well, stunned is more like it) me with the most beautiful new watch - it's so gorgeous and nice and is perfect for me. It's exactly what I would have chosen myself so he earned lots of points for that one. And speaking of brownies . . .
Mmmmmmmmmm, this cake was soooooooooooooooooo good!! I was really spoiled. The best gift, however, was probably Leah giving me her first big smile!!! Paul and I nearly melted as she looked up at us and grinned ear to ear! And, no, it *wasn't* gas b/c she did it several more times and throughout the day on Sunday too. No pictures yet, of course she never did it when we had the camera ready. Ahhhhhh, the simple pleasures that make a mommy complete.
Pete enjoyed a piece of that delicious triple chocolate cake - it was really to die for!!!
Our sweet little smiler had a nice hot bath - these are becoming more and more frequent as Leah has taken to daily poop explosions in her diaper. She likes to save her poops and *explode* everywhere, all at once. No matter what I've tried I can't stop her from being covered in head to toe poop. It's gross. Paul went to change her diaper last night, unzipped her sleeper only to see her adorable little chubby body covered in #$%&*!. I heard the familiar "Shan, go fill the bath" so I came running.
One can almost not believe something this gorgeous could cause such a big poopy mess!!!
We caught Pete at one of his more cuddlier moments with his little sister - awwwwwwwwwwww!

We took the boys sledding and tubing yesterday in the sunny, warm weather. Leah was a trooper in her cute little bunting bag - I'd say she's loving the Canadian winters already!! She loves being carried in my sling or baby bjorn, so I've been taking she and Rudy for walks on nice days. We all need the fresh air after a cooped-up long winter.

Chronicles of a Cocker Gone Wrong
Needing a good laugh? Can't remember the last time you rolled on the floor laughing, to the point you almost peed your pants? Then read on . . .
Although I didn't post this here, some of you will be aware that we have had a couple bizarre incidents with our dog, Rudy, lately. The poor dog was our first "baby". By the time Rudy's first birthday rolled around, we were weeks away from giving birth to Peter. King Rudy got bumped down the totem pole a little bit, and didn't love losing his position in the hierarchy one bit. Then came David. Then came Leah. You get the picture, right?
So a number of weeks ago we were urging David to go to the bathroom on the potty. We took his pants and diaper off for a little while, so he could run and just go whenever he wanted. No big deal, normally. It was Sunday evening and all of us were sitting in the living room hanging out and relaxing. David walks out of the kitchen, comes to sit with me on the couch and says, "hey, I pooped". I thought he was joking, then this feeling of instant horror swept over me. I looked at Paul and my eyes opened as wide as saucers . . . or more like frisbees. I flew into the kitchen (not an easy task for a large 8-month pregnant lady) and quickly began putting the pieces together. The dog and I both eyed the brown lump on the kitchen floor at the exact same time. With lightening speed we both went for it. I was so stunned, I truly didn't know whether to reach for the dog or the poop. But super cocker beat me to it, slurping up my two year old son's human feces in a millisecond. I dove on top of the dog, trying to pry it from his mouth, but it had indeed been swallowed whole.
Paul and I were devastated. This just didn't seem *right*. My stomach still turns as I type out the story.
A week or two later the dog got out of the yard (he is normally on a long leash in the back yard), on a freezing cold evening at supper time. I prayed he would just come back when I called, but as luck would have it, he wanted to make like a tree and leave. I knew I was screwed, I was 38 weeks pregnant, Paul was not home from work and P&D were hungry for supper. I called my mother-in-law to come over and watch the boys while I searched the neighbourhood for Rudy. In January. In the freezing cold, ice and snow. Having contractions the entire time. He was gone for 90 minutes. I thought I'd never see him again. I had tears frozen to my face because I was so upset. He came back later, waltzed up to the front door and walked right in like he owned the place.
I was devastated - again. Why the heck would he want to run away? Who wants to escape from a life where you're fed $50 dog food and organic dog treats? Are things here *that* bad?
Fast forward to last night. I wake up to nurse Leah, and the dog jumps up (from OUR bed where he insists on sleeping) and goes to the back door. I figure he must have to pee pretty badly, because he never asks to be let out at night (it is 2:30 a.m.). In a moment of complete and utter stupidity, I popped him out the back door without his leash. In seconds the dog is gone. I can't believe it. I'm stunned by the dog once again. Tears well up as I realize the severity of the situation. I am sooooooooooooooooooooo screwed.
It is snowing . . . hard. I have to get out and find the dog before Paul wakes up. I put Leah back in the play pen in our room and hope she doesn't wake Paul up (who will ask me WHY WHY WHY did I not tie him on the leash?????????). I grab my coat and throw on my ankle length boots (even though I own higher boots and it IS snowing out), and run to follow the footsteps the dog has left in the snow. For a second I feel like I may outsmart him, and I am proud of my Sherlock Holmes line of thinking.
The footsteps disappear under our six foot hedge. There are snow banks everywhere and there is no way I can follow him out of our yard, it is fenced on that side. I realize he has gone into the neighbour's yard so I run around to the other side, out front and sprint across our front lawn to their driveway. Except we have four feet of snow in our yard so the wet crunchy snow is up to my waist. And I don't have socks on. And I'm wearing PJs.
I soon realize my Italian neighbours have their back yard sheltered like Fort Knox. There is NO WAY IN. I continue calling the dog and offer him cookies, treats, even a BBQ steak if he will just come back. No way. I grow increasingly frustrated as I realize that he MUST be back there and is therefore just ignoring me. I soon decide to dive through a slim part of the hedge and into their back yard. I shimmy down the narrow pathway between our hedge and their car port, to the back yard. Here the snow is slightly higher than my waist, so it is nearly impossible to walk but the thought of dying right there, so close to my warm bed, fueled me to keep going. I burst out of the snow bank and into their yard.
All their motion sensor lights are on, and a few lights in their house are now on, so I assume someone is likely watching this whole charade as it unfolds. I find Rudy, digging at the garbage they have left outside their back door. He has torn through the bag and pulled out a styrofoam tray dripping with remnants of ground beef. I now *get* why he is back here and am almost ready to forgive him . . . until I call to him from two feet away, he looks me straight in the eye and proceeds to run away AGAIN. He bolts to the other side of their yard and under the next hedge. By now I am chasing him all over their back yard and am ready to lose my mind because he won't come to me. I notice him squat to poop, so I ran and grabbed him. Then I realized I can't leave my dog's poop in their backyard, so because I'm tired and a bit delirious I actually put snow in my hand, and pick up the dog's poop WITH MY HANDS to throw it in the hedge and get rid of it.
I then carry our 30 lb cocker spaniel back through the obstacle course I had just traveled to get into their yard. When I get home and in the door with the dog, Paul is of course awake and holding the baby. He says he "heard something outside" and thought I was in a fight with someone out there. As I explained that my legs were blue from standing in ice and snow for the past 15 minutes, he became quite sympathetic. The dog does not sleep with us for the rest of the night, I lock him out.
Of course we eventually both had to laugh. Hysterically. Over and over and over again. And we make a resolution to call the nearest dog whisperer around ;-)

Princess Leah is four weeks old
Leah is four weeks old already!!! The time is going so fast, we can all hardly believe it. She's a little sweetie and is really gaining lots of weight - she's become a little pudge already :-) She's a great nurser and loves her milk, so I guess that's where the ballooning chubby cheeks are coming from. The boys are totally loving her, and are getting used to what life is like with a new baby around (busy, hectic, boring when mommy is breastfeeding). They've certainly had their *moments* and have exhibited more signs of jealousy than I had anticipated, but overall our family of five is starting to run like a well-oiled machine. I can only imagine things will improve tremendously when Spring comes and nice weather arrives in Ottawa - ah . . . the days when I can get out and walk, play at the park and sit outside with the three kids. It seems far off but I hope it will be just around the corner :-) But, for these last few weeks of winter I will diligently continue to pack three kids under age four into snow suits MANY times during the week and smush them into their car seats in the van. I mean, these are the days I will long to go back to when they are all teenagers and begging me to lend them my brand new Mercedes, right ;-)?
Here we have Princess Leah modeling one of her cute little pink outfits. We still don't make it out of pjs and sleepers many days, so I snapped this shot to make it appear to the outside world that we dress our children.
If the cheeks could talk they would say "Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, more milk please!"
Napping in big brother's bed early one morning . . .
The boys hangin' with their sister.
Proud big brother Pete, unaware that he elbowed Leah in the face.
David LOVES to hold Leah and asks several times a day to hold her.
Here is David tickling her - I had to chuckle at the expression on her face :-)
So signing off for now and back to my life of chaos, no sleep, meal plans, computerized grocery lists (yes, I have become *that* person - but in fairness it is really hard to survive without total and complete anal-retentive organization), poopy dipes, feeding, poopy dipes, ETC!!!!

Mrs. Potato Head?
I got a good chuckle out of this one. When I wasn't looking (yes, it happens) David transformed his little sister into Mrs. Potato Head. I came into the living room to see my two week old daughter like THIS.
David just loves these little glasses from Mr. Potato Head and he wears them himself all the time. I guess he thought they'd look good on Leah.
I think they're a bit too dark for her complexion ;-).
